Terms of service
Last updated: October 1, 2026
These terms cover the Snow OS website (snowos.net), its downloads and your Snow OS account. They are written to be read. By creating an account or downloading Snow OS you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
1. Who we are
“We” and “us” mean the Snow OS project, which runs this website. “You” means anyone who visits it, downloads Snow OS or holds an account.
2. The software is licensed separately
These terms are about the website and your account. Snow OS itself is a collection of software: it includes open-source components, each under its own license, and applications written by the Snow OS project whose source code is not published. The license of each part is shown with the software. Nothing on this website changes those licenses.
3. Your account
- An account is made of a username, a password and a recovery key. We do not ask for or keep an e-mail address.
- You are responsible for your password and your recovery key. If you lose both, we cannot recover the account — for anyone, for any reason. Keep the recovery key somewhere safe and offline.
- Choose a username you are comfortable with; do not impersonate other people or the Snow OS team, and do not use names that are offensive.
- One account is for one person or one household. Do not sell, rent or trade accounts or invitations.
- You can delete your account at any time from My account. Deletion is permanent.
4. Fair use
Please do not:
- attack, probe or overload the website or its services, or try to access accounts, data or areas that are not yours;
- get around protections such as the captcha, rate limits, invitations or download restrictions, or create accounts automatically;
- use the service to break the law or to harm others.
We may suspend or remove an account, or block a connection, that breaks these rules or puts the service at risk. When an account is suspended, the person is told the reason the next time they sign in.
5. Downloads and the experimental channel
- Snow OS is provided as is. Hardware support depends on your computer (graphics in particular); the download page lists what we know. Back up your data before installing — the standard installation uses the whole disk.
- Check the SHA-256 shown on the download page before you write an image to a USB stick.
- Experimental builds are available only to accounts that we have given experimental access. They are unfinished and can break your system or lose data. Use them on a computer you do not depend on. We may add or withdraw experimental access at any time.
- Some downloads may require you to be signed in.
6. Snow Cloud and other online features
Online features such as linking your computers to your account are provided as they become available and may change, be limited or be withdrawn. Do not treat them as your only copy of anything important unless we say a feature is meant for that.
7. Availability and changes
We try to keep the website running, but we do not promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or stop parts of the service. We may also update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
8. No warranty, limited liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the website, Snow OS and the online features are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for loss of data, loss of access to an account, or other indirect or consequential damage arising from their use. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law gives you and that cannot be waived.
9. Privacy
What we collect about you, and how to delete it, is described in the Privacy policy.
